A Lazy H Outfitters is a family business operated by the Haas family. Al, Sally, and Joe Haas have been taking guests into the mountains for decades. Our passion is providing enjoyable and high quality adventures.
Montana’s beautiful mountains offer many unique opportunities for experienced and novice mountain travelers. However, these mountains can require a healthy respect for the backcountry and its wildlife inhabitants. That is why we make sure you have a safe and enjoyable wilderness adventure when you travel with us.
Our hunting operation began in the 1920s as the Circle 8 Ranch, where we offered summer fishing and fall hunting trips in the Sun River area of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The early operators of the ranch were closely associated with the cowboy artists Jesse Gleason and Charlie Russell. Early adventurers would come out west to fish in the summer or hunt in the fall, and the artists would accompany them into camp to enjoy the mountains while painting.
Through the 1970s, Kenny and Joe Gleason took the next several generations of adventurers through the mountains. Kenny Gleason retired in 1979 and Al Haas, who had worked for the Gleasons for several years prior, began taking trips into the mountains. The Haas family has been taking summer fishing and fall hunting trips ever since. In 1995 we expanded to include the early season fall hunting camps.
We’ve seen a whole lot of change and a enjoyed generations of guests over the years. We hope you join us for our next generation of guest adventurers.
The headquarters is located on the South Fork of the Teton River, about 25 miles west of Choteau. We are nestled right at the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front. From here we take our summer trips from the trailheads just a few miles west. We also stage here for out hunts further north.
