Hunting Information

Since the early 1930's, we have been guiding Big Game Hunts in the mountains of Montana. A Lazy H has always been a family-owned and operated outfit that ensures the highest quality hunts to every one of our guests.

The Camps

A Lazy H Outfitters LOGO offering Montana elk hunting, deer hunts, trophy whitetail deer, summer family vacations, horseback riding, pack trips and more.We hunt both early and general seasons for rifle. We also provide late season mule deer hunts out of our ranch west of Choteau. These late season hunts are in the last two weeks of November.

Our early rifle season camps are at Strawberry Creek and Big River Meadows in Region 1, Elk & Deer District 151. Both camps are in the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, which is home to one of Montana's largest big game herds.

Our late season camp is on the South Fork of the Two Medicine River in Region 4, Elk & Deer District 415. This is a narrow strip of country between the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Great Bear Wilderness, and Glacier National Park.

We ensure our camps are clean, efficient, and well equipped to support your wilderness hunt. All camps are accessible by horseback only.

The Game We Hunt

In our wilderness camps, the principle game we pursue are elk and mule deer. Black bear is also common in our area, so we encourage our hunters to have the elk-deer combination license and a bear license.

Should you have an interest in a special hunt, there are special permits for mountain goat and moose available in some areas.

During the last two weeks of November we hunt mule deer out of the ranch along the Rocky Mountain front. If you are fortunate to draw a special big horn permit, we also hunt big horn sheep out of the ranch in late November.

We run 25-30% success on elk harvest and 50-60% on mule deer harvest.

Number Of Hunters

We typically limit the size of the camp to six hunters per trip. Our hunting areas are strategically located such that we can disperse hunters widely into quality areas. We will gladly accommodate hunting parties smaller than six at no extra charge.

Equipment

The only equipment you need to bring on our guided hunt is a sleeping bag and personal clothing. We fully furnish our camps so you can focus all your attention on hunting. You will find all of our equipment well maintained and in excellent condition.

For our ungquided hunts, we can also offer varying equipment as needed.
